Multi-Seed Crispbread (vegan)

Multi-Seed Crispbread (vegan) -- www.thevitalsisters.comI have to be honest with you, I never was a big fan of crispbread- at all. For me it’s just been the black sheep in the big, big family of breads. With a pretty dull taste and a consistency not at all similar to my beloved soft bread, crispbread was avoided whenever possible. But just as it was the case with cheese (there was nothing I hated more than cheese when I was a child!) a couple of years ago, from one day to the other I started to like it. Not only like but really love it! Love the crunchines, the versatile possibilites to use it, the light taste, …

Soon after I discovered crispbread for myself, I started to experiment with my own recipe ideas. And today I want to share one of my favourites with you. The recipe really is super easy and requires only 8 ingredients.

I recomend dipping it into hummus, our smoky sweet potato dip, the spinach, chia & white bean spread, or simply enjoying it plain as a little snack.

  • 50g rye flour
  • 50g spelt flour
  • 50g oats
  • 25g sesame seeds
  • 50g sunflower seeds
  • 50g pumpkin seeds
  • 1 tbsp oil
  • 350ml water
  • salt

Ingredients for Multi-Seed Crispbread --

How it’s done

Put all dry ingredients (flour, oats, seeds, salt) into a bowl, give it a quick mix. Add water and oil. Mix it all up until everything is well incorporated and you don’t have any flour lumps left.

Now it’s time to relax – time to relax for you and the mixture for about 30 minutes.

Once the relaxation time is over,  it’s time to get the dough into the oven. So line a baking tray with parchment paper and transfer the dough to the tray. By using a spatula you should be able to spread the mix evenly thin.

Put the tray in the oven at 170° C (350° Fahrenheit). After 15 minutes take the tray out and slice the crisp bread in whatever form you like. I usually cut triangles. Once that’s done put it back in the oven for around 45 minutes (the exact time depends on your oven. So better check occasionally).

When you think they’re done, just take them out of the oven and leave them to cool. Then just break them into pieces and ENJOY  🙂
